Fit & Healthy

I haven’t done one of these in a long time, so thought I’d do a post about my favorite healthy things right now…

Recipe: Gimme Some Oven Best Baked Sweet Potato Fries

I love sweet potatoes all the ways! Of course that includes as fries! These did not disappoint especially since they were extra crispy in the air fryer.

On a side note, the air fryer is one of my all time favorite appliances. I’m sure I have said this about other things like my Ninja blender, my Instant Pot and probably even my first crockpot.

What can I say? I don’t mind getting appliances as gifts. This girl loves being in her kitchen.

Fitness: Sarah Beth Yoga

Yin Yoga for Hips by Sarah Beth – So good for activating the parasympathetic nervous system which helps our muscles relax and our heart slow down. Yin yoga is helpful in reducing cortisol in the body and keeping the body flexible.

The first few times I tried it were a big struggle because it requires focused breathing and thoughts. And my brain is most often in rapid fire mode with my thoughts.

This is exactly why I need to do yin yoga, to give my mental thought processes a break. The more I do yin yoga, the more I really enjoy it. The first few minutes are always hard for me, but once I start focusing in the moment and breathing, it becomes easier.

Sarah Beth has great Yin Yoga videos at all lengths! I love her instruction, pacing and modifications. She is by far my favorite yoga instructor on YouTube. Check her out!

Health: 11 Powerful Nootropic *Memory Enhancing* Foods aka Genius Foods

For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by how foods and our lifestyle impact our health. So when my dad got diagnosed with dementia a few years ago, and I started to read more about the suspected causes, I came across Max Lugavere’s book, Genius Foods.

I have so much respect for not only the work he put into this book and research, but also, the personal story behind it. As a health journalist, it isn’t just about a topic of interest, but a personal journey to understand how his mom came to have dementia.

If you know me, you know I try to eat healthy. His work though has had a big influence on the healthy foods we eat regularly, and just reinforced the value I have to live a health lifestyle!

Leadership: Grace and Truth Matrix

I’ve been learning about this idea of how the lack of grace or the lack of truth or both in communities creates these unhealthy cultures. I love the idea behind this based on how Jesus lived life in community and find it’s something I definitely need to grow in.

Communities that combine grace and truth create a culture that “empowers others to embrace their God-given identity and join him in his work.” It is full of hope and joy, not apathy and discouragement.

These are some of my favorites right now. To see some of my past favorites click here.

Xoxo, Liz
